Boone County Republican co-chair and local builder Todd Rasmussen on Jan. 31 announced he is running for the Iowa Senate District 24 seat.
Rasmussen has spent the last 34 years in commercial and residential construction. Todd and his wife Amy live in Boone where they home school their son at Boone HSAP. Their daughter resides in eastern Iowa. He served on the committee to select the new school superintendent in Boone, is a coordinator for Avenue of Flags in the Boone Optimist Club and contributes to other charitable organizations across Iowa.
Todd is an evangelical Christian and believes in the sanctity of life. He worked with the Iowa Firearms Coalition and the National Rifle Association to elect pro-gun candidates.
He has been endorsed by State Representative Phil Thompson, Jefferson mayor Matt Gordon, Boone city council members Steven Ray and Terry Moorman, along with other community leaders in Iowa.
“I have built pole barns, houses and hog confinements all over this district. The key to good construction is a great foundation,” Rasmussen said. “We are graduating the first generation in our nation that cannon expect better opportunities than their parents. They leave college with significant debt and without career options. We need to give our kids a solid educational foundation to prepare them for real jobs including here in our home towns. We need to maintain and strengthen the structure that keeps us safe and prosperous like roads, hospitals, police, fire and emergency services. Just like in construction, we need to accomplish this with a budget that makes sense. Families are better stewards of their hard earned money that the government. We need to keep taxes low and government limited to make it easy for businesses to grow.”
Jefferson mayor Gordon said, “Jefferson needs buildings. It would be a blessing to have a builder like Todd serve as our senator and advocate for rural communities.”
State Rep Thompson said, “Todd works hard to turn conservative values into public policy. He is the workhorse on Boone campaigns from city council to state and federal races. I need a friend like him helping me fight for rural values on the other side of the capitol.”
